Only Pop Music Can Break Your Heart

Only Pop Music Can Break Your Heart

Our first beloved little release, homeburned CDR with a handpainted glitter logo in (almost) each cover. The cover shot of lovely Niksu was taken by our cover designer Virpi in the toilet faculties of the gone-but-not-missed Factory club on the night of our first public performance. This was recorded on our first visit into a real studio during a pleasant winter weekend in Hinthaara. The future Viola drum-artist did the mixing duties.

Released in February 2001

Always Never Lasts (demo version)

A light disco-pop "hit" with bittersweet lyrics. Classic Placebo/New Order -esque bass line and an eurodance beat. The first Viola song played in national radio! Still a live favourite, an updated version is being planned on our debut album.

Lyrics

"forever is over too fast and always will never last
so pull me out from your schemes
words sever us so painfully
however hard we choose to do without
it all flows back tomorrow
all the tears we've swallowed

and true love can fade away ever so gently
yet real hurt is as far from this as tears from the rain

you pierce me through and through
I was already yours (how true)
our kingdom is a jewel in the bottom of an ocean

and true love can fade away ever so gently
yet real hurt is as far from this as tears from the rain

you said "we were so close"
so terribly close
that there was nothing between us

and true love can fade away ever so gently
yet real hurt is as far from this as tears from the rain

always never lasts
always never lasts
always never lasts
yet never might be soon"

Violentia (demo version)

This is as goth disco as we get (and it got some nice airplay at a bunch of those). An old one-chord anthem from the Lieksa days that we used to play on our every show (recently we played a scary "a-ferry-to-Sweden" -version of it.)

Lyrics

"this cruel bliss, violent kiss
I'm on my knees that's all she needs
fierce desire like barbed wire
she and I we play at night
malicious games with innocent names
figures of sin carved onto her skin

you poison my nights, you drown my days
and we will never understand
our love is so pure, our love is so cruel
and we will never understand
you and I, cold as the sky, colder than death
you are mine, diabolic divine, so violent

clandestine, hidden from light
this is how we wear our pride
we go all depths, all lenghts tonight
I have a feeling I've lost all my feelings
and it feels so sweet
you silent thirst - violent outburst

You poison my nights, you drown my days
and we will never understand
our love is so pure, our love is so cruel
and we will never understand
you and I, cold as the sky, colder than death
you are mine, diabolic divine, so violent

I'll never let myself go"

Sensitive Youth (demo version)

A hymn to all underdogs and sensitive people who stay young no matter what age they are. It found a new home on our acoustic set where it suited better - recorded version became maybe too pompous. A solid tearjerker when all things click.

Lyrics

give me a perfect design
to beautify this sad pale life
sleepy hours, let them pass
I'm not like other boys in the class

we finally slip away
this dream comes to an end
we just wanted to stay
where hearts will never break
to look for love you'll never find
such a waste of time
but if you wait your youth will fade away

we keep our tornadoes inside
always giving up in style
we have a vision, we have the sound
one day we'll set our songs unbound

we finally slip away
this dream comes to an end
we just wanted to stay
where hearts will never break
to look for love you'll never find
such a waste of time
but if you wait your youth will fade away
